Melbourne Man Charged with Double Murder After Chilling Incident

A homeless man has been charged with the murders of a pregnant woman and her partner in Melbourne, Australia. The accused, Ross Judd, 34, faces serious charges following the discovery of the bodies of Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and Andrew Gunn, 50, at a unit on Adrienne Crescent in Mount Waverley. The couple’s bodies were found on the night of October 9, 2023, prompting an immediate police investigation.
Details surrounding the incident have taken a disturbing turn. According to reports from local staff, Judd entered a nearby bottle shop shortly after the alleged murders, appearing “soaked in blood.” Witnesses claim he was wearing a dark hoodie and was seen at the store at approximately 21:48 (local time). During his visit, he purchased several beverages while his two German shepherd dogs waited outside for around ten minutes.
The nature of the crime has shocked the community. Gunn’s body was discovered decapitated, with his head reportedly mounted on a spike, raising alarm over the brutality of the attack. Investigators are piecing together the events that led to the incident, which has left many in the area on edge.
Judd, who has no fixed address, has been taken into custody and will face court to answer the charges. The police have not released further details regarding the motive behind the murders, but they are continuing their investigation into the tragic events that unfolded in Mount Waverley.
Local residents have expressed their disbelief at the horrific nature of the crime. One neighbor noted, “It’s unsettling to think something like this could happen so close to home.” As the community grapples with the aftermath, questions linger about safety and the circumstances surrounding the individuals involved.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to understand the full context of this shocking double murder. The case has garnered significant media attention, highlighting issues related to homelessness and mental health in the region.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community continues to mourn the loss of Georgopoulos and Gunn, who were well-known in the area. Their tragic deaths have raised awareness about the vulnerabilities faced by those living on the fringes of society and the urgent need for support and intervention.
