US Entrepreneur Stunned by India’s 10-Minute Delivery System
A recent visit to India left Varuni Sarwal, the CEO of the US-based AI healthcare company TriFetch, astonished by the country’s rapid delivery services. After experiencing the efficiency of 10-minute deliveries for three weeks, Sarwal remarked that Amazon Prime’s standard two-day delivery now feels outdated. Her observations highlight a significant shift in consumer expectations driven by India’s evolving business-to-consumer (B2C) logistics network.
During her time in India, Sarwal noted the impressive capabilities of platforms like Blinkit, which have transformed how consumers access products. She expressed her surprise in a social media post, stating, “San Francisco has self-driving cars. India has 10-minute everything. I’m not sure which is more impressive.”
Experiencing Rapid Logistics in Ranchi
Sarwal’s visit included a trip to Ranchi, where she attended a wedding. In a moment of urgency, she found herself in need of traditional outfits for a ceremony. Instead of relying on the typical US solution of taking an Uber to a mall or waiting for an Amazon delivery, she opted to use Blinkit. Within just 15 minutes, a rider arrived at her hotel with two complete outfits.
Reflecting on this experience, she stated, “The depth of the Indian consumer market is mind-bending.” Sarwal emphasized that the high-speed logistics available even in tier-2 cities like Ranchi show that the “India Opportunity” extends beyond the upper echelon of consumers.
Social media users resonated with her insights as her post gained traction. One user commented, “Incredible perspective. India’s B2C logistics are truly operating at a different level; speed, reach, and adaptability are remarkable.” Another user added, “True! The speed of delivery has made life so much easier. Now even one day feels like a long wait.”
Government Support for Gig Economy Workers
The Indian government has recognized the critical role of delivery workers and gig platforms within this booming logistics sector. New labour codes have been introduced, requiring aggregators to contribute to a social security fund. This initiative aims to ensure that gig and platform workers receive essential protections, including life, disability, and health benefits.
As India continues to redefine consumer expectations with its logistics capabilities, the contrast between its rapid delivery services and those in other countries, like the US and the UK, becomes increasingly apparent. Sarwal’s experience serves as a reminder of how innovation can emerge from unexpected places, challenging established norms in global markets.
The discussion sparked by Sarwal’s observations reflects a growing recognition of India’s potential in the global logistics landscape, emphasizing that advancements in technology and service delivery can significantly shape consumer experiences worldwide.
