Qatar Shooters Secure Silver Medal at Asian Championship

The Qatari shooting team concluded their participation at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship with a strong performance, securing a silver medal in the men’s double trap team event. This achievement increased Qatar’s overall medal tally to seven, showcasing their prowess in the sport.
Impressive Team Performance
Competing in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, the team comprised of Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Rashid Al Athba demonstrated their skill by hitting a total of 266 targets across four rounds. This impressive score earned them second place, finishing behind the host nation, Kazakhstan. The bronze medal was claimed by India, adding to the competitive nature of the event.
In addition to the team success, Al Rumaihi also showcased his individual talent by finishing sixth in the individual double trap competition. This placed him among the top shooters in the region, reflecting his dedication and skill.
A Strong Overall Medal Haul
Qatar’s overall performance at the championship was noteworthy, with their medal collection including a silver from Raya Basil in the women’s trap event. The team also secured five bronze medals across a range of disciplines, including team and mixed events in trap, skeet, and rifle competitions. This diverse achievement highlights the strength of Qatari shooters in various shooting disciplines.
The championship, held over two weeks, witnessed significant participation from across Asia in various shooting categories including pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap. The event served as a platform for shooters to showcase their talents on an international stage.
Following the championship, Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, praised the team’s achievements. He credited their success to extensive preparation and the ongoing support from the Qatar Olympic Committee, describing the results as “a launchpad toward broader ambitions.” This sentiment underscores the commitment of Qatar to enhance its presence in international shooting sports.
The Qatari shooting team has now returned home, buoyed by their successes and ready to build on their achievements as they look toward future competitions.
