Queenstown transformed into a vibrant hub of lights and cultural celebration on October 14, 2023, as hundreds gathered for Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The event, hosted by the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust at the Queenstown Memorial Centre, featured a rich display of Indian traditions and community spirit.

The celebration showcased an impressive lineup of performances, blending both traditional and contemporary elements. Attendees enjoyed classical Indian dances, lively Bollywood numbers, and cultural presentations by local children and youth. These performances not only entertained but also highlighted the diverse talents within the community.

Guests indulged in a variety of authentic Indian cuisine and sweets, which added to the festive atmosphere. Local members of parliament, community leaders, and representatives from various organizations attended the event, expressing their appreciation for the Trust’s efforts in promoting cultural diversity and inclusion in the region.

In his address, Mangal Behal, founder of the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust, reflected on the significance of the occasion. “It was wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate Diwali and mark our 10 years of service in Queenstown. The support from our volunteers, performers, sponsors, and guests made this event truly special,” he stated.

The evening concluded with a poignant message that underscored the triumph of light over darkness and emphasized the importance of unity and kindness among community members.

Now in its tenth year, the Queenstown Diwali celebration has established itself as one of the most anticipated multicultural events in the region. It embodies the spirit of harmony, joy, and togetherness, reflecting the enduring commitment of the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust to foster a sense of community through cultural expression. This year’s festivities not only celebrated Diwali but also marked a decade of dedication to enhancing cultural understanding and inclusivity in Queenstown.
