Queenstown came alive on October 14, 2023, as hundreds gathered at the Queenstown Memorial Centre to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Hosted by the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust, the event highlighted the richness of Indian culture through a vibrant display of lights, performances, and culinary delights.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
The evening featured an impressive lineup of performances that included classical Indian dances, lively Bollywood numbers, and cultural presentations from local children and youth. Attendees enjoyed authentic Indian cuisine and sweets, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Among the attendees were local MPs, community leaders, and representatives from various organizations, all of whom praised the Trust for its commitment to promoting cultural diversity and inclusion in the region.
Speaking at the event, Mangal Behal, founder of the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “It was wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate Diwali and mark our 10 years of service in Queenstown. The support from our volunteers, performers, sponsors, and guests made this event truly special.”
Marking a Decade of Celebration
Now in its tenth year, the Queenstown Diwali celebration has become one of the region’s most anticipated multicultural events, reflecting harmony, joy, and togetherness. The evening concluded with a heartfelt message celebrating the triumph of light over darkness, underscoring the importance of unity and kindness within the community.
This vibrant festival not only showcased the rich traditions of Indian culture but also fostered a sense of belonging among participants, reinforcing the values of inclusivity and community spirit that the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust aims to promote.
