Jahrome Hughes Returns to Melbourne Storm Squad for NRL Play-offs
Kiwi halfback Jahrome Hughes has been named in the Melbourne Storm squad for the upcoming National Rugby League (NRL) play-offs, marking a potential comeback from a significant injury. Hughes is set to participate in the grand final qualifier against the Cronulla Sharks on September 29, 2023. His return comes after a challenging recovery period during which he played only one match in the last two months due to a broken forearm.
Hughes sustained the forearm injury in early September, adding to his struggles after a dislocated shoulder suffered in July. At one point, it seemed likely that he would miss the remainder of the season. Nevertheless, Craig Bellamy, the head coach of the Storm, has included the Dally M Medal recipient in the squad. A final decision regarding Hughes’s participation will be made closer to game time.
On returning to the training field on Tuesday with a protective pad around his arm, Hughes demonstrated progress in his recovery. Cameron Munster, the Storm’s five-eighth, stated in an interview with Newscorp, “I think he’s ticking all the boxes at the moment with the physios.” This positive feedback indicates that Hughes is on track, bolstering hopes for his presence in the crucial match against Cronulla.
The anticipation surrounding Hughes’s return adds to the excitement of the NRL play-offs, which also feature another grand final qualifier on Sunday between Brisbane and Penrith. The outcome of these matches will determine the finalists for the championship, making each game pivotal for the teams involved.
As the play-offs approach, the Storm will look to capitalize on Hughes’s experience and skill, which could play a crucial role in their pursuit of the title. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how his return will impact the team’s performance in this high-stakes environment.
