Veteran Indian Actor Pankaj Dheer Passes Away at 68
Pankaj Dheer, the veteran Indian actor renowned for his iconic role as Karna in the television epic Mahabharat, has passed away at the age of 68 after a prolonged battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) on October 15, 2025. Dheer’s family indicated that he had been receiving treatment for several months and was surrounded by loved ones during his final moments.
The CINTAA expressed its deep sorrow, stating, “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji.” The cremation is set to take place today at 16:30 local time in Mumbai, specifically next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W).
Dheer gained national acclaim in the late 1980s with his portrayal of Karna, a role that has left a lasting impression on Indian television audiences. His performance highlighted the tragic hero’s nobility and inner conflict, earning him enduring respect and admiration from both peers and fans.
A Distinguished Career in Film and Television
Throughout a career spanning over four decades, Pankaj Dheer became a household name, appearing in popular films such as Sadak (1991), Soldier (1998), and Baadshah (1999). He also featured in acclaimed television series including Chandrakanta and Badho Bahu. His commanding screen presence and old-world charm resonated with audiences across multiple generations.
In addition to his acting career, Dheer was committed to nurturing new talent in the industry. He founded the acting school Abbhinnay and managed his production company, Visage Studioz, dedicated to mentoring aspiring performers.

Dheer is survived by his wife, Pammi Dheer, son Nikitin Dheer, and daughter-in-law Kratika Sengar, both of whom are well-known figures in the entertainment industry. The family has indicated that the last rites will be performed this evening in Mumbai.
