Qatar Olympic Committee’s Al-Buenain Attends ISSA General Assembly

Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), participated in the 14th General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) on November 4, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This assembly coincided with the ongoing 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, which are set to run from November 7 to 21, featuring athletes from 57 countries.

Key Discussions and Approvals at the Assembly

Joining Al-Buenain was Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of the QOC Sports Sector. The assembly covered several important topics, including the ISSA General Secretariat’s report for 2025, updates on the organization of the Games, and amendments to the Association’s statutes. The assembly also approved the audited financial statements for 2024.

Among the highlights of the meeting was a review of preparations for the 2026 Executive Board elections. The assembly ratified the results of the recent elections for the Athletes’ Commission, which took place on November 2, 2023.

Future Hosting Plans for the Islamic Solidarity Games

Significantly, the assembly selected Malaysia to host the 7th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029. This decision marks an important milestone in the continuing development and recognition of the Games, reflecting their growing significance in the international sports arena.

The collaboration and dialogue at this assembly further underscore the commitment of the ISSA and its member nations to fostering unity and sportsmanship among Islamic countries.
