Qatar Prepares for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with Friendly Matches

Qatar’s national football team is set to face Bahrain in a friendly match on September 6, 2023, at Al Thumama Stadium. This encounter marks the beginning of preparations for the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
This match will be Qatar’s first during the September international break. Following the clash with Bahrain, the team will also play against Russia on September 7 at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. These friendly matches are crucial for assessing the squad’s readiness and enhancing their chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
Strategic Preparation Ahead of Qualifying Matches
Head coach Julen Lopetegui has assembled a 26-player squad for this training camp and the upcoming friendlies. These games serve as vital evaluations of the team’s tactical approach and overall performance as they gear up for the decisive qualifying stage.
Qatar has been placed at the top of Group A, which will be hosted in Doha from October 8 to 11, 2023. The group also features the UAE and Oman. Qatar’s journey in the fourth round of the qualifiers will kick off with a match against Oman on October 8, followed by a game against the UAE on October 14.
The match schedule will also see Oman face the UAE on October 11, setting the stage for a competitive atmosphere in the group. These upcoming matches are seen as essential for Qatar as they seek to secure a spot in the World Cup, building on their prior experience and performances in international tournaments.
As the team prepares for these challenges, the friendly matches against Bahrain and Russia will provide invaluable opportunities for players to demonstrate their readiness and for the coaching staff to finalize strategies that will be vital in the qualifying rounds.
