King’s High School Celebrates Academic Excellence at 2025 Prizegiving
King’s High School in Dunedin held its annual prizegiving ceremony on October 29, 2025, celebrating the remarkable achievements of its students. The event showcased a range of academic awards, highlighting the dedication and excellence of young scholars across various disciplines.
Among the standout recipients was Nic Schollum, who was awarded the prestigious title of dux for his exceptional academic performance. He was joined by Adam Salisbury, who received the proxime accessit award, recognizing him as the second-highest achiever in the school’s academic ranks.
The ceremony also presented several notable accolades for all-around excellence. Lukas Ghidella and Seva Solomatenko both received the all-round academic excellence prize, while Jeremiah Tuhega-Vaitupu was recognized with the all-round excellence prize. Additional awards included Aidan Blakie‘s top Year 12 student scholarship and Nived Menon‘s top Year 11 student scholarship, showcasing the breadth of talent within the student body.
Recognition of Individual Achievements
The Accelerant Awards highlighted outstanding performances in specific subjects for students in Years 11 to 13. For Year 11, Ali Mina excelled in digital technology, while Henry Zhong was noted for senior mathematics. In Year 12, Aidan Blakie distinguished himself in multiple subjects, earning top student honors in Year 13 biology, classical studies, and English.
In Year 13, numerous students received accolades for their academic prowess. Michael Aitcheson was awarded for excellence in English and history, while Ali Al Tooq received multiple awards including the department prize for French and recognition for excellence in biology and physics. Migank Das was also celebrated for outstanding achievements in earth and space science.
The event also honored contributions beyond academics. Zak Chisholm received the Contribution to the Spirit of the School Cup, while Mathew Latuivai was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Cultural Leadership Trophy, emphasizing the importance of community and cultural engagement at King’s High School.
Acknowledging Future Leaders
The prizegiving was not only a celebration of past achievements but also a look toward the future. Many students received scholarships from the University of Otago, aimed at fostering the next generation of leaders. Notable recipients included Nathan Bagge and Marley Bennett, both awarded scholarships recognizing their potential and contributions.
The event concluded with a sense of pride and inspiration, as students, teachers, and parents reflected on the accomplishments of the past year. The recognition of individual achievements served as a reminder of the hard work and commitment required to excel academically. As these students prepare for their next steps, they carry with them the values instilled at King’s High School and a bright future ahead.
