All Blacks Face Challenges After England Defeat, Says Muliaina
The All Blacks suffered their seventh defeat under the leadership of coach Scott Robertson after losing to England on Sunday. This latest setback has raised questions about the team’s cohesion and performance ahead of the upcoming Rugby World Cup. Former All Blacks player Mils Muliaina, who now serves as an analyst for Sky Sports, expressed his concerns during an interview with presenter Ryan Bridge.
Muliaina emphasized that while the All Blacks possess considerable talent, there appears to be a disconnect within the squad. “Not yet,” Muliaina responded when asked if it was time to replace Robertson, but he acknowledged that the pressure is mounting as the Rugby World Cup approaches. “There’s a bit of leeway at the moment, but we’ve got some big test matches next year,” he noted, highlighting the significance of the forthcoming South African tour.
The former player pointed out that the All Blacks have lost four matches last year and three this year, with the manner of these losses being particularly concerning. “Nineteen of those guys in this squad were featured in the Rugby World Cup two years ago,” Muliaina remarked. He highlighted that the current team includes experienced players who should be performing at a higher level.
Muliaina observed a lack of synchronization among the players, particularly during critical moments in matches. “They came out of the break and looked really fatigued,” he said, adding that the team’s inability to respond under pressure has led to them conceding points. This observation underscores the pressing need for the All Blacks to rectify their tactics and regain their competitive edge.
Looking ahead, Muliaina believes that while the All Blacks have the right players, they must find a way to work together effectively. With the Rugby World Cup looming, the team faces a crucial period for regrouping and addressing their shortcomings. The upcoming matches will serve as vital tests for both the players and coaching staff as they seek to build momentum and restore confidence in their abilities.
