DOHA: Townsend Manor delivered a stunning performance on Wednesday night, clinching the prestigious Fuwairit Cup, a Class 2 Thoroughbred Open Handicap. The race, held at Al Rayyan Racecourse, featured 11 competitors vying for victory over a distance of 1,100 meters.

The five-year-old bay gelding, owned by Al Rufaa Racing and trained by Gassim Al Ghazali, achieved his second consecutive win of the season, marking a total of three victories from six starts. Jockey Marco Casamento executed a masterful ride, helping Townsend Manor to secure the win in the final moments of the race.

Race Dynamics and Key Moments

Townsend Manor began well from stall six, initially demonstrating early speed before settling towards the rear of the pack. As the leaders established a brisk pace, jockey Casamento allowed his horse to travel smoothly and conserve energy.

After an early shuffle, Weissmuller took command and led the field through a solid tempo, closely followed by Sardem, Al Mundher, and Safwan. As the race progressed, Safwan appeared poised to challenge for the lead, making a strong bid as they approached the home stretch.

However, within the final 200 meters, Townsend Manor unleashed a powerful surge down the center of the track. The gelding swiftly passed his rivals and took control of the race. Although The Dunkirk Lads mounted a late challenge from the back, Townsend Manor maintained his lead, crossing the finish line a length ahead. The Dunkirk Lads secured second place, finishing 3.5 lengths clear of Weissmuller, who claimed third.
