The All Blacks are set to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Bledisloe Cup match, with both first-choice halfbacks, Cam Roigard and Cortez Ratima, confirmed available for selection this weekend. This news brings a welcome reprieve to the team, which has faced significant challenges in the inside back division over recent weeks.

Coach Scott Robertson expressed relief during a press conference, stating, “It’s good to get a couple of halfbacks come our way.” This follows a period where the team had to rely on their fourth and fifth-choice halfbacks during the recent series against the Springboks. Although Finlay Christie performed admirably against South Africa at Eden Park, the return of Roigard is expected to make a substantial impact.

Key Players Return

Roigard’s influence was evident in his recent performance with Counties-Manukau, where he contributed significantly to their victory over Auckland. Robertson highlighted Roigard’s strengths: “His game management is strong. He can kick, he’s got a hell of a pass. So he’s right up there.” Along with Roigard and Ratima, the All Blacks will also welcome back Codie Taylor and Patrick Tuipulotu to the squad.

The All Blacks are looking to bounce back from their recent 43-10 defeat to the Springboks. Robertson described the review session following that game as challenging, stating, “Look, it stung. It was really clear. We’ve discussed and reviewed and been honest as we possibly can.” He emphasized the importance of using this experience to motivate the team moving forward.

Facing the Wallabies

Looking ahead, Robertson acknowledged the need for consistency within the team. “Our instructions, leading, timing players coming on the field. And then probably just coming down to executing what’s required. That’s the most important thing,” he stated. The All Blacks will face a different challenge against the Wallabies, who are known for their fast-paced and dynamic style of play.

The Wallabies, currently leading the Rugby Championship points table despite a recent loss to the Pumas, are eager to reclaim the Bledisloe Cup, which they have not won in 23 years. Robertson recognized the strength of the opposing side, remarking, “Yeah, they’re persistent, they play a really clear brand. They know the DNA, they know how they’re going to play and stay in the game for the whole match.” The Wallabies’ coaching staff, including New Zealand’s Joe Schmidt, has instilled a strong foundation in the team.

As the All Blacks gear up for this important match, Robertson emphasized that the focus remains on their performance while also respecting their opponents. “It’s all on, isn’t it? Bledisloe and the Rugby Championship’s up for grabs, and you need to go back to back. Every team’s in…it’s extremely competitive as we know,” he said. The upcoming clash promises to be a thrilling encounter with significant implications for both teams.
