Silver Ferns Face South Africa Amid Coaching Changes in Auckland

The Silver Ferns will take on the South Africa Proteas in the first game of the Taini Jamison Trophy series today in Auckland. This match comes during a period of transition for the Silver Ferns, as their head coach, Dame Noeline Taurua, has been stood down for the series. In her place, Yvette McCausland-Durie has stepped in as the interim coach, bringing a new perspective to the team.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming match, McCausland-Durie recognized the significance of the Taini Jamison Series. “This is always a special occasion, and we’re excited to be welcoming South Africa back to New Zealand,” she stated. She highlighted the challenge posed by the Proteas, noting that they are a world-class side that will provide the competitive environment needed for the Silver Ferns to develop.
McCausland-Durie conveyed confidence in her squad, which consists of 14 players, emphasizing the balance and depth necessary for the three-Test series. “We’ve selected a group that brings both proven international experience and fresh energy,” she remarked. This series offers an opportunity for newer players to showcase their skills on an international platform, while established athletes will play pivotal roles in guiding the team.
Notably absent from the squad are players Kate Burley, Tayla Earle, and Saviour Tui, while Amelia Walmsley was unavailable due to commitments with the New Zealand Under-21 team, which is competing at the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup.
The second and third tests of the Taini Jamison Trophy will take place in Napier and Invercargill on September 24, 2025, and September 28, 2025, respectively. As the Silver Ferns embark on this series, they aim to build momentum and strengthen their performance against a formidable opponent.
