Tajana Triumphs Over Lollapalooza in Thrilling Sunline Vase
The Group 3 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Sunline Vase at Ellerslie concluded with a thrilling finish, as the three-year-old filly Tajana narrowly defeated race favourite Lollapalooza. This exciting contest took place on October 7, 2023, and has positioned both fillies as joint favourites for the upcoming 1000 Guineas.
Prior to the race, many analysts anticipated a showdown between Tajana and Lollapalooza, viewing it as a two-horse race. While several seasoned contenders were in the field, the pre-race predictions proved to be accurate. Trained by Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray, Tajana showcased her exceptional talent by clinching victory by a mere nose.
Both fillies are known for their late-race tactics, often requiring a strong finish to secure their position. As the race unfolded, jockeys Vinnie Colgan, riding Lollapalooza, and George Rooke, aboard Tajana, settled in the second and third-last positions, respectively. This strategy allowed them to conserve energy for the final stretch.
As the field approached the home straight, Rooke made the decision to steer Tajana towards the outer lanes, while Colgan navigated a path between the runners. At the 200-meter mark, Little Black Dress surged ahead, taking the lead as the finish line loomed.
In the final moments, both Tajana and Lollapalooza launched their bids for victory. The two fillies made significant strides, overtaking Little Black Dress in a dramatic finish. Tajana’s timely thrust ensured she crossed the line first, marking her second consecutive stakes victory after a previous win at the Group 3 Northland Breeders’ Stakes, where she showcased similar determination.
This latest triumph not only highlights Tajana’s capabilities but also sets the stage for an exciting 1000 Guineas, where both fillies are expected to compete fiercely. The Sunline Vase has proven to be a significant indicator of talent, with both horses demonstrating their potential to excel in future races.
As the racing scene continues to unfold, fans and analysts will undoubtedly keep a close watch on these promising fillies and their performances in the upcoming events.
