Global Economic Cooperation Summit Aims for Enhanced Collaboration
Senior policymakers, global executives, and leaders from multilateral institutions will gather in Mumbai from February 17 to 19, 2026, for the inaugural Global Economic Cooperation 2026 (GEC). This exclusive forum aims to explore new pathways for economic diplomacy, cooperation, and capital alignment in an increasingly multipolar world. The event is organized by the Future Economic Cooperation Council (FECC) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra.
The GEC is positioned at a critical juncture in global economics, as it seeks to address significant structural changes impacting international trade and investment. Participants will engage in discussions on vital topics such as infrastructure financing, advanced manufacturing, energy transitions, and resilient supply chains, emphasizing cooperation that extends beyond conventional trade.
Focus on Economic Sovereignty and Global Stability
High-level plenaries and closed-door dialogues will concentrate on crucial areas such as economic corridors, investment partnerships, digital connectivity, and frameworks for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. These discussions are essential as they relate to economic sovereignty and the stability of global markets.
Priyam Gandhi-Mody, Director of the Future Economic Cooperation Council, expressed the vision for the summit, stating, “The global economy is entering a decisive decade where economies need to protect themselves against the threats of fragmentation, protectionism, and uncertainty.” She emphasized India’s proactive role in facilitating cooperation among governments, investors, and industry leaders to develop practical pathways across various sectors, including capital, infrastructure, technology, and energy.
Mr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, in charge of Foreign Affairs for the Bharatiya Janata Party, highlighted India’s commitment to fostering cooperative economic frameworks. He noted that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has cultivated durable partnerships globally, asserting that economic engagement is increasingly intertwined with geopolitics.
Emerging Leaders Circle to Nurture Future Talent
On the final day of the summit, GEC 2026 will introduce the Emerging Leaders Circle, a platform designed to engage young business minds and future leaders through curated panels and discussions on global economic innovation. This initiative will be conducted in collaboration with prestigious academic institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Columbia University, underscoring the forum’s dedication to developing the next generation of economic leadership.
The Global Economic Cooperation platform envisions economic corridors as conduits for cooperation, fostering fair access to trade and connectivity, which are essential for peace and shared progress. As an annual event, GEC aims to unite ministerial leaders, sovereign and institutional investors, and executives from critical sectors such as infrastructure, logistics, clean energy, artificial intelligence, and fintech. The inaugural edition is expected to lay the groundwork for renewed strategies in global economic collaboration.
The Future Economic Cooperation Council serves as a strategic platform to enhance dialogue and collaboration on global economic issues amid a rapidly changing world order. By acting as a connector between emerging and advanced economies, FECC is focused on navigating the complexities of multipolarity and shifting trade norms. Through impactful events and strategic initiatives, the council aims to position India as a catalyst for inclusive and forward-looking economic partnerships worldwide.
