Neeta Bhushan Appointed Ambassador to Poland After New Zealand Tenure
India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Neeta Bhushan, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Poland, according to an announcement by the Government of India on February 20, 2026. This change comes as Bhushan completes her successful tenure in New Zealand, where she has served since 2022.
Bhushan, an officer of the Indian Foreign Service from the 1994 batch, is expected to transition to her new role in the near future. Her diplomatic career has spanned various key positions, including assignments in Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
In a related development, the Government of India had previously announced the appointment of Muanpuii Saiawi, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2005 batch, as the next High Commissioner of India to New Zealand. Saiawi currently serves as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and will take over from Bhushan.
Saiawi, who comes from the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram, is also expected to assume her new responsibilities shortly. The appointment of Saiawi marks a significant step in her rising diplomatic career as she steps into a role that has been pivotal for India’s relations with New Zealand.
Bhushan’s tenure in New Zealand has been marked by efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between India and New Zealand, focusing on trade, education, and cultural exchange. As she prepares for her new assignment in Poland, her extensive experience is likely to serve her well in navigating the complexities of diplomatic relations in Central Europe.
The transition in diplomatic positions reflects the Indian government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its international presence and influence. With Bhushan’s appointment to Poland, India aims to bolster its engagement in the European region, further advancing its strategic interests.
As both Bhushan and Saiawi embark on their new journeys, the diplomatic community will be watching closely to see how their leadership shapes India’s foreign policy directions in their respective roles.
