Neeta Bhushan Appointed India’s Next Ambassador to Poland
India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Neeta Bhushan, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Poland. This announcement was made by the Government of India on February 20, 2026, marking a significant step in her diplomatic career. Bhushan, who has held the position in New Zealand since 2022, will transition to her new role shortly.
Bhushan is a member of the Indian Foreign Service from the 1994 batch and has built a commendable diplomatic portfolio. Her previous postings include key roles in countries such as Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. Her extensive experience is expected to serve her well in Poland, a country with growing ties to India.
In conjunction with Bhushan’s new assignment, the Government of India also announced the appointment of Muanpuii Saiawi as the next High Commissioner to New Zealand. This decision was revealed on January 19, 2026. Saiawi, who is currently serving as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, is set to assume her new responsibilities soon. Hailing from the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram, Saiawi will take over from Bhushan, marking a new chapter in her own diplomatic journey.
Bhushan’s tenure in New Zealand has been characterized by efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on trade, investment, and cultural exchange. The appointment to Poland comes at a time when India is looking to enhance its presence in Eastern Europe, fostering deeper diplomatic and economic ties.
As Bhushan prepares for her new role, she leaves behind a legacy of commitment and strategic engagement in New Zealand. Her successor, Saiawi, faces the opportunity to continue building on this foundation and to further the objectives of the Indian government in the region.
With these appointments, the Government of India signals its ongoing commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations across the globe. The transition reflects the dynamic nature of India’s foreign policy and its adaptability in addressing the evolving geopolitical landscape.
