Chris Lendrum to Depart New Zealand Rugby by End of May
New Zealand Rugby (NZR) will see the departure of its General Manager of Professional and Performance, Chris Lendrum, at the end of May 2024. This decision adds to a series of significant changes within the organization, which has been undergoing a transformation in its leadership structure.
Lendrum’s exit will pave the way for NZR to appoint a new high performance director. This role will be crucial, as the new director will oversee performance strategies and report directly to the incoming head coach of the All Blacks. This change comes amid ongoing efforts by NZR to enhance its competitive edge and ensure the team remains at the forefront of international rugby.
In an interview with D’Arcy, Lendrum discussed his decision to leave the organization. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming leadership changes for the future of NZR.
As New Zealand Rugby continues to adapt in a rapidly evolving sport, Lendrum’s departure marks a pivotal moment. The organization is focused on finding a successor who can effectively navigate the challenges ahead and bolster the performance of its teams, particularly the All Blacks, who are a key element of New Zealand’s rugby identity.
The decision for Lendrum to step down comes as NZR prepares for a demanding season, with crucial matches scheduled over the coming months. The organization is committed to maintaining high standards of performance, and the appointment of a skilled high performance director is seen as vital to achieving this goal.
Lendrum’s contributions to NZR over his tenure have been significant, and his insights will be missed as the organization moves forward. The search for his replacement is expected to commence immediately, with NZR keen to fill the role before the start of the next competitive season.
This transition underscores the ongoing evolution within New Zealand Rugby as it seeks to secure its legacy in the sport and develop its talent pipeline for future generations.
