13-Year-Old Hero Swims Four Kilometers to Save Family

On October 5, 2023, after a kayaking accident left his mother and siblings stranded, Austin swam four kilometers through rough waters and then ran two kilometers to reach help.
The incident began when Austin and his family were kayaking on a lake, and their boat capsized in challenging conditions. After ensuring his mother and siblings were safe, Austin made the decision to seek assistance. Despite the rough weather and the daunting distance ahead, he remained determined to reach a phone to contact emergency services.
Austin’s swim lasted approximately two hours, during which he fought against strong currents and chilling temperatures. Rescue officials praised Austin’s courage. In a statement, Chief of Emergency Services remarked, “Austin displayed extraordinary bravery and resourcefulness. His actions undoubtedly saved his family from a potentially tragic situation.”
