Christchurch’s Sheraton Hotel Rebuild Progresses Towards 2027 Opening
The reconstruction of the Sheraton Christchurch hotel is moving forward following significant damage from the earthquake on February 22, 2011. Located on Oxford Terrace, the hotel, previously known as Noah’s Hotel in the 1970s and later as Rydges, is undergoing a substantial transformation with a projected cost of $150 million.
The essential quake-strengthening work is nearing completion, allowing the focus to shift to interior design. This phase of the project will enhance the hotel’s appeal, featuring modern amenities and sophisticated aesthetics.
New Features and Amenities
Once finished, the Sheraton Christchurch will stand as a 14-storey structure, with the first two levels dedicated to function rooms and diverse dining options. Guests will enjoy picturesque views of the Ōtākaro Avon River from these areas, creating a unique atmosphere for both leisure and business gatherings.
Additionally, the hotel will boast the city’s highest rooftop bar, offering a vibrant social space for visitors. The top floor will also include a luxurious presidential suite, catering to high-end clientele and providing an exclusive experience.
The anticipated opening of the Sheraton Christchurch is set for mid-2027, marking a significant milestone in the city’s recovery and revitalization efforts after the devastating earthquake more than a decade ago. As the project progresses, it promises to enhance the hospitality landscape of Christchurch, attracting both locals and tourists alike.
As Christchurch continues to rebuild and redefine itself, the Sheraton hotel will serve as a prominent symbol of resilience and renewal within the community.
