Man in His 50s Attacked in Planned Assault in Edendale
Police in Southland are investigating a violent assault that occurred in Edendale, targeting a man in his 50s. The attack, described as a planned assault, took place on the evening of March 3, 2024, around 22:55 local time.
According to authorities, the incident began when a woman knocked on the victim’s door, alleging she required assistance with a flat tyre. The victim accompanied her to the corner of Melvin Street and Turner Street, where he was confronted by a second assailant. During the assault, the attackers attempted to restrain him by tying his hands. The man sustained significant injuries, including a fractured eye socket and a broken nose.
Following the attack, the victim reported seeing an SUV speeding away from the scene. Police believe this vehicle was used by the assailants. Investigators are now focused on identifying both the woman who initially approached the victim and the man who assaulted him.
Community Assistance Requested
Authorities are urging residents in Edendale to assist with the investigation. Police are particularly interested in any street-facing CCTV footage captured on Turner Street, Melvin Street, Seawood Road, or Ferry Road between 22:00 and midnight on the night of the assault. They are also asking the public to report any suspicious activity or vehicle sightings in the area during that timeframe.
