Search Intensifies for Missing 11-Year-Old Boy in Canada
An urgent search is underway for an 11-year-old boy, Kai Pavlovic, who has gone missing in British Columbia, Canada. Family members based in both New Zealand and Canada have expressed “grave concerns for his safety,” as authorities work tirelessly to locate him.
On September 26, 2023, the Burnaby Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a request for a wellbeing check on Kai. Since then, police have been actively investigating his whereabouts. A spokesperson confirmed they have spoken to family members and believe he may be staying with a caretaker who is unknown to law enforcement.
The police have dedicated numerous resources to the investigation, emphasizing their commitment to finding Kai. In a statement, they noted, “Our investigators are making every effort to find Kai and we are asking for the public’s help as part of those ongoing efforts.” They have also appealed to the public for information regarding his location, hoping someone may have seen him or knows who is caring for him.
In response to questions about why an Amber Alert has not been issued, the RCMP clarified that such alerts are activated only in cases of confirmed abduction with imminent danger to the child. Currently, the investigation does not meet the criteria necessary to issue an Amber Alert.
A crowdfunding page on Givealittle has been established to support Kai’s family, who are based in Christchurch, New Zealand. The page states that Kai has been living in Canada with limited contact with his family over the past year. Concerns for his wellbeing were raised by relatives from his deceased father’s side, prompting his New Zealand family to request the welfare check.
Attempts to confirm Kai’s safety have so far been unsuccessful, leading to heightened anxiety among family members. They are now making arrangements to travel to Canada to assist in the search efforts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in New Zealand has acknowledged the situation, stating that their high commission in Ottawa has provided initial advice to a family member. Due to privacy reasons, specific details regarding the assistance offered will not be disclosed.
As the search continues, authorities remain hopeful that public awareness will lead to crucial information that could help locate Kai. Anyone with information is urged to contact local police to ensure the boy’s safety.
