Over 130 Members of Gaza Flotilla Arrive Safely in Jordan
More than 130 individuals from the intercepted flotilla attempting to reach Gaza have safely entered Jordan. According to the Jordanian state news agency, these individuals crossed through the King Hussein Bridge, following arrangements made to ensure their safe passage. Among those reported to have arrived are citizens from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The flotilla, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, faced interception by Israeli authorities, leading to the detention of some participants. The father of Samuel Leason, one of the three New Zealanders held by Israel, shared with RNZ that the New Zealanders were among the last to leave detention.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Zealand has not yet provided detailed comments on the situation, stating that it would respond to non-urgent queries the following morning. As of now, their focus appears to be on the well-being of the individuals involved and facilitating communication with their families.
Jordan’s decision to allow the flotilla members to enter reflects its ongoing role as a transit point for those affected by the ongoing conflicts in the region. The arrival of these individuals underscores the complexities surrounding humanitarian efforts in volatile areas.
The situation continues to evolve, and further updates are expected as the affected individuals regroup and await additional support from their respective governments.
