Auckland Volunteers Rally for Pink Ribbon Street Appeal Fundraiser
This coming October 17-18, 2023, Auckland will host the annual Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, a campaign aimed at raising funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Volunteers will take to the streets, collecting donations to support crucial initiatives in breast cancer research, education, and patient care.
During this two-day event, nearly 3,000 volunteers will be seen throughout the region, shaking pink buckets to gather contributions. The efforts are vital, as breast cancer continues to claim the lives of more than 650 New Zealanders each year. According to Ah-Leen Rayner, the foundation’s chief executive, there is an urgent need for continued support and funding to improve outcomes for those affected.
Raising Awareness and Funds
Rayner emphasizes the importance of community involvement, stating, “We know times are tough right now, but even a small donation can make a big difference.” The funds raised during the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal will directly benefit several key programs. These include a nurse advice line, a clinical trial focused on enhancing breast cancer diagnosis, and the iconic Pink Campervan, which travels across the country to educate Kiwis about breast health and early detection.
As a charity that does not receive government funding, the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ relies heavily on the generosity of the public to sustain these essential services. Rayner urges community members to contribute in any way they can. “Please donate whatever you can to the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal to help make sure more women can live and live well after breast cancer,” she added.
How to Participate
Donations can be made directly to volunteer collectors throughout Auckland, who will be actively collecting on the streets during the appeal. Additionally, individuals can contribute online at www.pinkribbonappeal.co.nz or by texting ‘PINK’ to 2447 to make a quick donation of $3.
The Pink Ribbon Street Appeal promises to be an impactful event, uniting the Auckland community in the fight against breast cancer. Every contribution helps build a stronger support network for patients and their families, making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
