Chris Luxon Invites Donald Trump for Golf in New Zealand
New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Luxon extended an invitation to former US President Donald Trump for a round of golf during a recent meeting. Luxon returned to New Zealand after attending the ASEAN and APEC summits held in Malaysia and South Korea, where he had an opportunity to engage with global leaders.
During his appearance on the Mike Hosking show, Luxon expressed confidence that Trump would accept the invitation to play golf with him and former Prime Minister Sir John Key. The Prime Minister highlighted that Trump has a substantial understanding of New Zealand’s golf culture, which could make for an enjoyable experience.
Luxon mentioned that the invitation was not merely a casual suggestion but rather a genuine offer to strengthen ties and share a common interest in golf. He believes that such a meeting could further enhance relations between New Zealand and the United States, particularly in light of the discussions held during the recent summits.
The invitation comes as Luxon aims to bolster New Zealand’s international relationships and promote tourism. By hosting a prominent figure like Trump for a round of golf, he hopes to showcase New Zealand’s scenic golf courses and hospitality.
As the Prime Minister reflected on his time at the summits, he noted that discussions with world leaders focused on crucial issues such as trade, climate change, and regional security. These meetings underscored the importance of collaboration among nations to address shared challenges.
In response to questions about the potential golf game, Luxon seemed optimistic. He stated, “I think he knows a lot about New Zealand’s golf scene,” which adds a personal touch to the invitation and reflects the shared interests that can foster stronger diplomatic relations.
Overall, the invitation represents a strategic move by Luxon to engage with influential leaders and promote New Zealand on the world stage. The prospect of a golf game with Trump may serve as a light-hearted yet effective way to enhance these diplomatic ties.
