Local Community Gears Up for Festive Events, Volunteer Opportunities
A variety of festive events and volunteer opportunities are on offer in the Howick area from November 21 to December 5. These activities aim to foster community spirit while promoting safety, connection, and support for local causes.
Festive Concert to Celebrate the Season
The Howick Singers will host their annual Christmas concert, “Towards Christmas,” on December 5 at 7:30 PM. The concert will take place at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, located on Vincent Street, Howick. Attendees can look forward to an evening filled with festive music and community connection. Entry is by donation, and supper will be provided. For more information, interested individuals can contact Lynne at 09 576 9084.
Community Safety and Healthy Relationships Focus
On November 29, the Zonta Club of East Auckland will host an event at Botany Library aimed at promoting safety and respect within the community. This gathering is part of Zonta’s annual campaign to combat violence against women and girls, and encourages attendees to embrace positive and healthy relationships. Dear Em will present insights on balanced relationships suitable for attendees of all ages. This event is open to everyone, with young people particularly encouraged to participate.
Volunteers are also being sought for the Trees of Remembrance initiative, which runs from December 2 to 23 across various locations in south and south-east Auckland. This annual street appeal aims to raise crucial funds for hospice care, supporting families in need. Individuals can sign up for 2.5-hour shifts at a location of their choice, whether they choose to work solo or with a friend. Interested volunteers can register at https://signup.com/go/UdYNCmj.
Christmas Night Markets to Support Local Hospice
The Tōtara Hospice will host its 5th Annual Christmas Night Markets on November 27, starting at 4:30 PM. Set in the underground car park and grounds of the hospice, the markets will feature over 60 artisan and food stalls. Visitors can browse unique gift options, enjoy delicious snacks, and engage in festive activities such as live entertainment, raffles, a bake sale, and face painting. Each purchase made at the markets contributes to the vital work of Tōtara Hospice, which provides compassionate care to those in need.
In addition to these festive events, a local resident, Pamela, is offering over 100 high-quality magazines for anyone interested in reading, crafting, or reselling. Those interested should contact Pamela at 09 534 5114. If she is unavailable, messages can be left for her to return.
The upcoming weeks promise to be filled with opportunities for community involvement, festive celebrations, and support for important local causes. As these events unfold, they serve to bring people together in the spirit of the season.
