Hurto Gym Hosts Thrilling Night of Boxing in Arrowtown
Boxing enthusiasts gathered in Arrowtown on October 14, 2023, for an electrifying evening organized by Hurto Gym, featuring 13 bouts sanctioned by the World Boxing Council (WBC). Fighters traveled from various locations, including Taranaki, Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, Balclutha, Invercargill, and Wanaka, contributing to a diverse and competitive atmosphere.
Among the standout performers was Marcel Main, who claimed victory in the main event. His impressive technique earned him the title of most spectacular fighter of the night, along with a $250 gift card from Stirling Sports Queenstown. Milo Skipper, demonstrating remarkable skill despite having only two previous fights, was awarded the $500 prize for fighter of the night after a challenging bout against a determined opponent.
Other Hurto Gym fighters also showcased their tenacity. Federico O’Connor, Robert Straton, Connor Bourne, and George Warswick engaged in closely contested matches, with O’Connor stepping into the ring on just one week’s notice and fighting above his weight category. Coach Horrocks praised his team’s efforts, stating, “They fought hard to the end.”
The event not only highlighted the fighters’ skills but also served as a platform for community engagement. Earlier that day, Horrocks hosted a WBC officiating seminar that attracted coaches, fighters, and boxing enthusiasts. He expressed gratitude to the main sponsor, Stirling Sports Queenstown, as well as to the Crew Room, which livestreamed the event, and Shipleys Audiovisual for their support. Judges Paul Davis and Stewart Mitchell contributed their expertise, ensuring a fair competition.
Overall, the night at Hurto Gym exemplified the spirit of boxing and community involvement, leaving participants and spectators energized for future events.
