Craig Greenfield to Share Insights on Global Youth Mentoring
Former Macleans College student and Bucklands Beach resident Craig Greenfield has dedicated his life to empowering disadvantaged youth globally. He will share his experiences and insights at Howick Community Church in Auckland at 10:00 on December 21, 2023.
Greenfield’s journey began in 2000 when he and his wife relocated to Cambodia to assist communities recovering from the devastating impacts of the Khmer Rouge regime. Their commitment to humanitarian efforts led them to Vancouver in 2006, where they focused on recruiting and training volunteers to support similar initiatives across Asia.
In 2013, the couple returned to Phnom Penh and established a mentoring program known as Alongsiders. This initiative aims to connect teenage Cambodians with at-risk younger children, providing mentorship and support to help them stay in school. The program addresses the challenges faced by these children, many of whom grow up without reliable adult guidance.
Since its inception, Alongsiders has expanded significantly, engaging over 80,000 children and youth in 32 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe. The program has transformed from a local initiative into a global movement, illustrating the power of community support and mentorship.
Greenfield’s upcoming talk in Auckland will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about his life’s work and the impact of Alongsiders. He will also participate in a smaller event the following day, where interested individuals can contact Kathryn Parker at 0273 007 443 for more details.
Additionally, a fundraising event for Alongsiders International is being organized in Auckland. More information about this initiative can be found online at https://crave-cafe.raiselysite.com/.
Through his efforts, Greenfield continues to inspire change and support vulnerable communities, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless young people around the world.
