Rotorua Christmas Appeal Raises Nearly $93,000 for Local Families
The 2025 Rotorua Christmas Appeal has successfully raised nearly $93,000 to support local families through the Salvation Army foodbank. This initiative has already provided assistance to more than 500 local individuals, helping them secure essential groceries and Christmas gifts during the festive season.
Community ministries manager Darnielle Hoods of the Rotorua Salvation Army shared touching stories from the distribution of aid. One notable interaction involved a grandmother caring for her three mokopuna (grandchildren) on a pension. She expressed deep gratitude as the Salvation Army team arrived with much-needed groceries and wrapped presents. Hoods remarked that experiences like this highlight the profound impact of their work.
Significance of Community Support
The overwhelming response to the Christmas Appeal underscores the community’s commitment to supporting those in need. Hoods noted that many families face challenges during the holiday season, and the donations received have made a substantial difference. “This grandmother had already made peace with the idea that her Christmas would look different,” Hoods said. “But knowing that we could help her bring some joy to her grandchildren is what drives us.”
The Rotorua Daily Post played a crucial role in promoting the appeal, encouraging local residents to contribute to the cause. The funds raised will continue to support the foodbank and help families put food on the table, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a festive season, regardless of their financial situation.
Continued Efforts to Assist Local Families
With the success of this year’s appeal, the Rotorua Salvation Army is committed to sustaining its efforts beyond the holiday season. Hoods emphasizes the importance of ongoing community support to address food insecurity and assist families throughout the year. The organization plans to utilize the funds effectively, providing resources and support to those in need.
The community’s generosity not only facilitates immediate assistance but also fosters a spirit of solidarity and compassion. As the holiday season approaches, the Rotorua Christmas Appeal serves as a reminder of the positive impact that collective action can have on local families. The Salvation Army remains dedicated to its mission of providing help and hope to those facing difficult circumstances.
The success of the 2025 appeal reflects a broader trend of community engagement in addressing social issues. As local organizations continue to collaborate and seek solutions, the spirit of giving thrives, ensuring that no family is left behind during this festive time.
