Chris Hemsworth Drives His Own Stunts in New Heist Thriller
Chris Hemsworth showcases his stunt skills in the upcoming heist thriller Crime 101, where he performed all of his own car stunts. The film, set to release on February 13, 2026, features Hemsworth as Mike Davis, a jewellery thief with a complex past who navigates high-speed chases through the streets of Los Angeles.
In an exclusive interview with TechRadar, writer-director Bart Layton revealed that Hemsworth insisted on driving during the film’s adrenaline-fueled action sequences. “When you see Chris, or what looks like Chris in a car going 80 mph (128 kph) through downtown Los Angeles, that’s actually him,” Layton shared. This commitment to authenticity sets the film apart in a genre often reliant on visual effects.
Davis, played by Hemsworth, relies on a range of powerful vehicles to evade capture. The film showcases an impressive lineup, including a Chrysler 300, a Dodge Challenger, a classic 1968 dark green Camaro, and a Cadillac CT5-V. Each car is designed to enhance the film’s thrilling narrative and keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The decision to allow Hemsworth to perform his own stunts is noteworthy, particularly given the inherent dangers associated with such sequences. Layton acknowledged the risks but emphasized Hemsworth’s determination. He compared the film’s style to classic chase sequences seen in films like The French Connection, while aiming for a sense of chaos and unpredictability. “Davis isn’t operating at an infallible, James Bond-style level. He’s more like you and me, so he’s going to be a messy driver if the adrenaline is pumping and he’s fearing for his life,” Layton explained.
Producing such high-octane action sequences presented its own challenges. Layton mentioned that achieving the right balance of realism and safety was crucial. “You can do incredible things with visual effects, but not with something like this,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of practical effects.
The film is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures, promising to deliver a thrilling experience for audiences worldwide. As anticipation builds for its release, Layton has also shared insights into the creative challenges he faced during production, underscoring the dedication that has gone into crafting this engaging heist narrative.
As the release date approaches, fans can look forward to an exhilarating ride that showcases not just Hemsworth’s acting prowess but also his commitment to delivering a genuine cinematic experience.
