Customer Discovers 1.1kg Rock in Pak’n Save Potato Bag
A customer shopping at Pak’n Save in New Zealand was surprised to find a large rock in her bag of potatoes. The incident, which has since gained attention on social media, involved a stone weighing over 1.1 kilograms nestled among the potatoes from a Pam’s bag. The woman shared her experience on TikTok, where she expressed her disbelief, stating, “You cannot tell me this is a potato because it weighs a kilo and then some.”
In her video, she detailed the moment she discovered the rock while peeling the potatoes. Many viewers responded by sharing their own similar experiences, highlighting a possible issue with quality control.
A spokesperson for Foodstuffs, the parent company of Pak’n Save, addressed the situation, noting that the rock likely slipped through the potato processing system. “We appreciate the customer’s surprise,” the spokesperson remarked. “It would have been problematic to peel and there’s obviously not much nutritional value in boiled or roast rocks, so they’ve got every reason to call it out.”
To remedy the situation, Foodstuffs has offered the customer a replacement bag of potatoes. The company made it clear that she does not need to return the original bag or the rock. This gesture aims to ensure customer satisfaction and uphold the retailer’s commitment to quality products.
As the story circulates online, it serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough inspection processes in food production. With social media amplifying such incidents, companies in the food industry may need to reassess their quality control measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
