Katayanagi Twins Denied US Entry Before Scheduled Performance

The Auckland-based DJ duo, the Katayanagi Twins, have been denied entry to the United States while attempting to travel from New Zealand. The twins, Rain and China Katayanagi, were reportedly en route to Los Angeles when they faced immigration issues that resulted in their return to New Zealand.
In a post shared on social media, Rain Katayanagi expressed their disappointment, stating they were “flying to LA to chase Summer.” Accompanying the post was a video featuring clips of their flight. She later revealed the unfortunate outcome: “country doesn’t let us in, and puts us on a one-way flight back to NZ.” The video concluded with a shot of one of the twins visibly upset as the plane took off.
The reason for their denial of entry remains unclear. The Katayanagi Twins were set to perform at Polyfest, a prominent Pacific cultural festival in Washington State. As news of their situation spread, fellow artist General Fiyah reached out to fans, apologizing for his own inability to perform due to being “detained and sent back to New Zealand.”
This incident is part of a broader context regarding immigration enforcement in the United States. Earlier this month, a New Zealand mother named Sarah Shaw was also detained with her six-year-old son at an immigration facility in Texas, though they were eventually returned safely to their home in Washington State.
The Katayanagi Twins gained international recognition for their performance at the Glastonbury Festival earlier this year, showcasing their vibrant electronic music style. Their unexpected return home raises questions about the challenges artists face when navigating international borders.
As the twins and their management have yet to provide further comment, fans are left awaiting clarity regarding the situation and hoping for their quick return to the international stage.
