Kiwis Continue to Explore Real Estate Market in 2025
Recent data from realestate.co.nz reveals that property browsing remains an enduring interest among New Zealanders in 2025. While many may not be in the market to purchase homes, they are actively engaging with listings online. This phenomenon has turned house hunting into a popular pastime, with logged-in users viewing an average of 123 properties across 42 sessions throughout the year.
The data shows that some users are particularly enthusiastic. One individual astonishingly viewed listings 19,585 times, while another logged over 4,000 sessions. The most popular suburbs for property enthusiasts included Auckland City, Cambridge, and Wanaka, reflecting a blend of major urban centers and idyllic lifestyle locales.
In terms of luxury properties, several high-value listings captured significant attention. A remarkable $32 million mansion in Remuera and a $25 million landmark estate near Muriwai stood out among the most viewed properties. The Remuera property, known as Guisnes Court, is a historic site designed in 1914 by architect Roy Keith Binney and features a blend of neo-Georgian and Arts and Crafts styles.
Another property that intrigued viewers was a lifestyle estate in Waimakariri, listed at $3.4 million, which includes an entertainment pavilion. Additionally, a new lakefront home in Queenstown priced at $11 million highlighted the appeal of waterfront living.
While luxury listings attracted much attention, there were also more affordable options that piqued interest. Among the top ten most viewed properties was a leasehold home in Greenlane, Auckland, priced at $295,000, showcasing that curiosity about homes extends beyond high-end markets.
The data indicates a shift in searching behavior as well, with users exhibiting a more practical approach. The most searched property was Trott’s Garden, a historic residence in Ashburton with an asking price over $2 million. Interest in land for new builds is also apparent, with several sections in regions like Alexandra and Colyton attracting attention.
In a statement, Vanessa Williams from realestate.co.nz noted that the data reflects a blend of aspiration and practicality among Kiwis. “There’s a real mix of dreamers and people hunting for bargains,” she said. Despite fluctuations in interest rates, the persistent cost of living challenges continue to influence what potential buyers are seeking.
The analysis revealed not only the most viewed properties but also the most searched listings, which include a variety of lifestyle options. For example, a Canterbury property listed at $2 million attracted significant interest, indicating a desire for space beyond urban centers.
Overall, the information from realestate.co.nz underscores that New Zealanders are not only dreaming of luxury homes but are also exploring various options across the market. The ongoing fascination with real estate is evident, as individuals balance dreams of grandeur with practical considerations in the current market landscape.
