Meryl Streep Reflects on High Heels and Character Evolution in Sequel
Meryl Streep, renowned for her roles in film, has humorously shared her experience of filming the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. During the production, which lasted for 16 weeks, she found herself grappling with the challenges of wearing high heels, jokingly referring to it as “PTSD.” Streep reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, the formidable fashion editor, a character she first portrayed in the 2006 classic.
In an interview with Vogue, the 76-year-old actress discussed the evolution of her character’s style. Miranda, who has maintained her position in the fashion world for over two decades, adapts her look to reflect contemporary trends. Streep remarked, “As a person holding her position for 20 years, [Miranda] kept her look but adapted it, as we do with time.” Despite the pain associated with the high heels, she humorously suggested she deserves a “Medal of Freedom” for her efforts.
Character Transformation and Reunion
The upcoming sequel not only revisits Streep’s character but also reunites her with co-stars Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who return as Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton, respectively. Streep noted that Miranda’s updated look for the film is “more sleek, stylish, and clean” compared to the original. This transformation reflects not only personal growth but also the ongoing changes within the fashion industry itself.
The film is highly anticipated by fans of the original, with many eager to see how the beloved characters have evolved over the years. The combination of Streep’s humor and her dedication to the role adds an extra layer of excitement as the release date approaches.
As Streep embraces her role once again, her reflections on the challenges of high fashion serve as a reminder of the complexities faced by those in the industry. Through her lighthearted comments, she continues to endear herself to audiences around the globe, reaffirming her status as a beloved figure in cinema.
