Judges Taste-Test New Zealand’s Best Toasted Sandwiches
New Zealand’s culinary scene has witnessed a spirited competition as judges have traveled across the country for the past 43 days, searching for the nation’s best toasted sandwich. The Great New Zealand Toastie Takeover, now in its eighth year, has attracted a record 208 entries, showcasing the diversity of this beloved comfort food from locations such as Whangārei to Te Anau.
To qualify for the contest, participants had to adhere to specific guidelines. Each sandwich needed to feature a toasted top and bottom and be prepared using grills, presses, or toasted sandwich machines. A crucial requirement was the inclusion of McLure’s Pickles and cheese in the filling. Furthermore, sandwiches had to be served hot or warm and designed for handheld consumption.

The supreme winner will be announced on this date, marking a significant highlight of the competition.
