Shadab Khan Rejoins Pakistan T20 Squad for Sri Lanka Series
Shadab Khan, the allrounder, has returned to Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 international series against Sri Lanka, scheduled for January 7, 9, and 11, 2024. The announcement was made by the selectors on Thursday.
The 27-year-old athlete had been sidelined since June due to a shoulder injury but has successfully regained full fitness following surgery in the United Kingdom. His inclusion is seen as a significant boost for the team, which is preparing for the T20 World Cup in February and March.
Squad Changes and Leadership
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed that the squad features several new players, as some senior athletes are currently participating in the Big Bash League in Australia. Key players, including senior batsman Babar Azam and pace bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Hasan Ali, will be absent from the tour due to their commitments in the Australian league.
In their absence, Salman Ali Agha will lead the side. Agha’s leadership is crucial as the team enters the final phases of preparation for the World Cup. His experience will be vital in navigating the challenges posed by the Sri Lankan side.
Another notable inclusion is uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Khawaja Nafay, who has impressed selectors with his performances in domestic cricket over the past two years. His selection reflects the PCB’s commitment to developing new talent within the squad.
Pakistan’s Squad for the T20 Series
The full squad for the series against Sri Lanka includes:
Salman Agha (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Khawaja Nafay, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Mirza, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan, Usman Tariq
As the team finalizes its preparations, the series against Sri Lanka will serve as a critical opportunity for players to establish their form and secure their places ahead of the World Cup. The matches will take place in Dambulla, providing a challenging environment for the visiting side.
With Shadab Khan back in the mix, Pakistan fans are optimistic about the team’s prospects in both the upcoming series and the World Cup. The blend of experienced players and fresh faces may just provide the right formula for success on the international stage.
