The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival captivated attendees yesterday, attracting an estimated 12,000 visitors to the Forsyth Barr Stadium. The two-day event, which runs until this evening, features a vibrant atmosphere filled with costumes, craft brews, and culinary delights.

Costumes were a highlight at the festival, with attendees like Toni Paterson, Stacey Hitchcock, Amy Coleman, and Courtney Smith embracing playful themes. Their choice of dressing as cops and prisoners served a practical purpose, as Ms. Paterson noted, “It’s easier for everyone to find each other.” Additionally, it served as a reminder for Ms. Smith, the designated sober driver for the group. “I draw the short straw every year, but I actually don’t mind it. You don’t have to drink to have a good time,” she added.

The festival, directed by Jason Schroeder, boasts over 150 different brews from some of the country’s leading breweries, alongside more than 75 food vendors. This year’s lineup has expanded to include new vendors, which aims to offer a variety of “fresh, innovative flavours” that complement the selection of craft beers, wines, ciders, and spirits.

Entertainment and Community Support

In addition to the vast array of beverages and food options, the festival features an engaging musical lineup, including performances by Gin Wigmore, Tiki Taane, Bootleg Rascal, CRÚDE, Francisca Griffin, and IVY. Attendees can also enjoy a silent disco, adding to the festival’s diverse entertainment offerings.

This year’s charity partners, The Dunedin Night Shelter, KiwiHarvest, and New Zealand Sea Lion Trust, will benefit from the event, emphasizing the festival’s commitment to community support. As the festival nears its conclusion this evening, it not only celebrates craft beer and food but also promotes local charities and community engagement.

The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival continues to be a cornerstone event for the city, bringing together residents and visitors for a weekend of joy, creativity, and camaraderie.
