Aaron Smith and Teagan Voykovich Announce Separation After 10 Years
Former New Zealand rugby star Aaron Smith has announced his separation from wife Teagan Voykovich after over ten years together, including four years of marriage. The split was confirmed by Joe Wheeler, a talent manager at Halo Sports, who emphasized the couple’s intention to handle the transition with privacy and respect.
Wheeler stated that Smith and Voykovich are focused on the well-being of their two young sons, reiterating that they will not comment further on their relationship. “Aaron and Teagan will not be making any further comments regarding their relationship,” he said, as reported by local media.
Background on the Couple’s Relationship
The couple, who have been in a relationship since their teenage years, own a rural property located outside Hamilton. Reports suggest that Voykovich was renovating the home while Smith played for the Japanese rugby club Toyota Verblitz after concluding his All Blacks career in 2023.
Smith’s relationship with Voykovich has been subject to public scrutiny, particularly following a scandal in 2016 when he was involved in a widely publicized incident at Christchurch Airport. During this incident, he was caught engaging in sexual activity with another woman in a public restroom, which resulted in his suspension from a test match in South Africa and his subsequent return to New Zealand. At that time, Voykovich’s father commented on the situation, stating that his daughter was managing the fallout “as well as could be expected” and described the ordeal as “a real shock.”
Reflections and Moving Forward
In a 2019 podcast, Smith opened up about the personal and professional challenges he faced following the incident. He acknowledged that it took him years to rebuild his life, stating, “It was hard, very tough, but I had to take a really good look in the mirror at who I was portraying and who I was being.” He added that addressing his issues was not an overnight process but rather a journey that continues.
As they navigate this new chapter, both Smith and Voykovich appear committed to co-parenting their children effectively. Their focus on family and mutual respect during this transition showcases their dedication to maintaining a stable environment for their sons as they move forward separately.
