Prime Minister Luxon Reflects on Tough Year in Christmas Message
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon delivered a heartfelt Christmas message, acknowledging the difficulties faced by many citizens during the past year. In a video shared on his X social media account, Luxon remarked, “2025 has been a tough year for some Kiwis,” highlighting the challenges that have impacted various communities across the nation.
In his message, Luxon encouraged New Zealanders to take a moment for reflection and connection. He stated, “At this time of the year, it’s time to finally slow down and to take a moment to be with the people who matter most: your family, your friends and your neighbours.” The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of enjoying the summer season, inviting Kiwis to partake in activities that are quintessentially part of a Kiwi Christmas, such as barbecues and long drives along scenic routes.
As the holiday period approaches, Luxon expressed gratitude for those who will continue to serve the public during this time. He acknowledged the dedication of individuals in the defence force, police, frontline services, and emergency responders. Luxon also paid tribute to healthcare workers, particularly those in hospitals and aged care facilities, who will be working throughout the festive season.
This message comes as New Zealanders reflect on the ups and downs of 2025. Economic pressures, social challenges, and community issues have made the year particularly difficult for some households. Luxon’s recognition of these struggles resonates with many, as he calls for unity and support amid the festive celebrations.
As families gather this Christmas, the Prime Minister’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of community and compassion. With the spirit of the season encouraging togetherness, Luxon’s words underscore the significance of looking after one another, especially during tough times.
In closing, Luxon extended his wishes for a joyful and peaceful holiday, urging Kiwis to cherish the time spent with loved ones. “Let’s make this Christmas a time to come together, celebrate, and support each other,” he concluded, reinforcing the value of connection and kindness in the coming days.
