All Blacks Legend Desmond “Lloyd” Ashby Passes Away at 94
Desmond “Lloyd” Ashby, one of the oldest living players to have represented the All Blacks, passed away at the age of 94 at his home in Dunedin on Monday. Ashby, who made his mark in rugby history with a single test appearance for New Zealand in 1958 against Australia, was a prominent figure in the sport during the 1950s. His contributions to Southland rugby are especially notable, where he played a total of 59 matches and was part of the team that secured the prestigious Ranfurly Shield in 1959.
