Otago Spirit Dominates Northland to Claim Championship Title
The Otago Spirit triumphed in the Championship final, defeating the Northland Kauri 37-12 at Tāhuna Park on March 15, 2024. This impressive victory capped off an unbeaten season for the Spirit, showcasing their exceptional skill in running rugby throughout the tournament.
The match began energetically, with winger Hannah Norris scoring the first try early in the game. The Spirit’s flanker Ella Gomez made a noteworthy 40-meter dash after intercepting the ball, though she was stopped just short of the line. Nonetheless, Sarah Jones capitalized on the opportunity, finishing the play with a try. Georgia Cormick added the conversion, bringing the score to 37-5.
Northland managed to score once more in the closing moments of the match, resulting in a final score of 37-12. The Otago Spirit’s commanding performance throughout the game highlighted their status as champions and underscored their successful season.
