Dunedin Man Charged After Knife Threat and Assault on Police
A 30-year-old man faces charges after allegedly threatening police with a knife and assaulting an officer in Dunedin. The incident occurred on March 15, 2024, when police responded to reports of an individual interfering with vehicles on King Edward St. Upon locating the suspect, officers informed him of his arrest for unlawful interference.
As police approached, the man reportedly turned and brandished a knife, prompting an immediate response from the officers. According to Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, the situation escalated further when the suspect bit one of the officers during the confrontation.
Following the incident, the man was subdued and taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including assault and threatening police officers with a weapon. The injured officer received medical attention but is expected to recover.
