Jas Mander Transforms Dairy Farming Success in New Zealand
On March 15, 2025, Jas Singh Mander, a notable figure in New Zealand’s dairy farming sector, was honored as the Dairy Manager of the Year at the Central Plateau New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards. Mander, who currently manages the Endeavour Dairy Unit at Pāmu Farms in the Wairākei Estate Dairy Complex, also received the Fonterra Dairy Management Merit Award and the De Laval Pasture and Feed Management Merit Award.
Mander’s journey began in 2015 when he departed from his family’s dairy farm in the Punjab region of Northern India during a sweltering 46°C day. He arrived in Rotorua, New Zealand, a stark contrast in climate, with the intent to pursue a career in farming. Enrolling at the Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, Mander immersed himself in the practices and technologies of modern dairy farming.
In the decade since his arrival, Mander has made significant contributions to the industry. His management at Pāmu Farms has been characterized by a commitment to sustainable practices and innovation. Under his leadership, the Endeavour Dairy Unit has not only increased production but has also focused on environmental stewardship, aligning with modern agricultural standards.
Reflecting on his recent accolades, Mander stated that the awards were an “amazing experience” that provided valuable insights into the industry and helped him grow professionally. His achievements highlight not only personal success but also the potential for immigrant farmers to thrive in New Zealand’s agricultural landscape.
