Jerry Greer Appointed Deputy Mayor of Central Hawke’s Bay
Jerry Greer, a third-term councillor, has been appointed as the new deputy mayor of Central Hawke’s Bay. The announcement was made by Mayor Will Foley during the council’s inaugural ceremony held on October 24, 2023, at the Municipal Theatre in Waipawa. Greer succeeds Kelly Annand, who previously held the position under former Mayor Alex Walker.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Mayor Foley emphasized Greer’s extensive experience and strong ties to the community. He stated, “Jerry has a depth of support in the community, working knowledge as a councillor, and a common-sense approach on how council and community can work cohesively together.” This endorsement highlights not only Greer’s qualifications but also the trust placed in him by the local leadership.
Greer expressed his commitment to fostering community collaboration in his new role. He aims to bridge the gap between the council and residents, ensuring that both parties work together effectively. His focus will be on enhancing communication and cooperation, which he views as essential for the district’s growth and success.
Having served as a councillor for several years, Greer brings a wealth of knowledge about local governance and community needs. His familiarity with the challenges and opportunities facing Central Hawke’s Bay positions him well to support Mayor Foley’s vision for the district.
The appointment of Greer as deputy mayor marks a strategic decision for the council, reflecting a desire for continuity and stability in leadership. As the council moves forward, the emphasis will be on aligning resources and initiatives with the aspirations of the community.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by various local dignitaries and community members, all of whom celebrated the new leadership team. With Greer’s appointment, residents can expect a focus on collaborative governance and community engagement in the coming term.
