Rotorua Community Raises Nearly $90,000 for Christmas Foodbank
Generosity has flourished in Rotorua this Christmas season, leading to nearly $90,000 raised to support families in need. The Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal, in collaboration with The Hits Rotorua 97.5FM, launched on November 15, 2023, and has successfully engaged the community over a span of six weeks to bolster the resources of the Rotorua Salvation Army Foodbank.
The final collections for the appeal concluded on Monday at 3 PM, marking another successful year in the effort to assist local families facing hardship. As of Monday morning, the preliminary total reached $89,227.50. This impressive figure comprises a range of contributions: $38,037 worth of food items—valued at an average of $3 each—$24,510.50 in cash or vouchers, and $26,680 in toys and gifts intended for local families.
Community Spirit Shines Through Generosity
The appeal has demonstrated the community’s commitment to helping those struggling during the festive period. Many donors contributed from what they described as “places of scarcity,” reflecting a deep empathy for those facing challenges. Local residents and businesses alike rallied together, contributing food, financial support, and gifts to ensure that families in Rotorua could enjoy a more joyful Christmas.
The partnership between the Rotorua Daily Post and The Hits Rotorua 97.5FM has been instrumental in raising awareness and encouraging participation. The campaign has not only provided essential support to families but also fostered a sense of unity within the community.
Throughout the appeal, volunteers worked tirelessly, gathering donations and distributing them to those in need. The efforts of the Salvation Army and its dedicated volunteers were crucial in ensuring that the collected items reached families in a timely manner.
Impact of the Fundraising Efforts
The nearly $90,000 raised will significantly impact the lives of many families in Rotorua, particularly during a time when financial pressures can be particularly acute. The funds will help provide essential food items and necessary gifts, bringing hope and joy to children and parents alike.
As the holiday season approaches, the success of this appeal serves as a reminder of the power of community spirit. The generosity shown by Rotorua residents exemplifies the collective effort to uplift those who are less fortunate, creating a more inclusive environment for everyone during this festive season.
The Rotorua Salvation Army Foodbank is gearing up to utilize the raised funds and donations to ensure that families receive the support they need. With the appeal concluded, the focus now turns to delivering aid effectively and efficiently to those who require assistance.
This year’s Christmas appeal not only raised significant funds but also strengthened community bonds, highlighting the importance of kindness and shared responsibility in times of need.
