Northland Community Mourns Loss of Philanthropist Walter Yovich
Walter Yovich, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 86. Known affectionately as Wally, his family announced his death, highlighting a lifetime dedicated to service, leadership, and community engagement in Whangārei, Northland.
Yovich’s contributions spanned over five decades, during which he became a significant figure in local business and philanthropy. His son, Paul Yovich, speaking on behalf of his sisters Deana and Franica, shared the family’s grief, stating, “Dad’s life spanned over half a century of service, business leadership and community devotion, and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who benefit from his work.”
A recipient of the Queens Service Medal (QSM), Yovich was deeply committed to enhancing the lives of others through various initiatives. His philanthropic endeavors not only supported local charities but also fostered community growth and cohesion.
Yovich’s legacy includes his children—Paul, Deana, and Franica—and his four grandchildren, along with his beloved dog, Gary. Paul mentioned that his father had a particular fondness for sharing food with Gary, a testament to his nurturing spirit.
The impact of Walter Yovich’s life resonates throughout the Northland community, where he is remembered not just for his business acumen but also for his unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of others. His passing marks the end of an era, but the values he championed will continue to inspire future generations.
