Two Critically Injured in Serious SH1 Crash Near Tīrau

Two individuals are in critical condition following a serious crash on State Highway 1 (SH1) close to the town of Tīrau in Waikato. The incident occurred near the intersection of SH1 and Horahora Road at approximately 19:40 local time. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where significant injuries were reported.
The road has been closed to facilitate emergency operations, with diversions established for traffic. According to police, the Serious Crash Unit has been notified and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Hato Hone St John, the local ambulance service, deployed a substantial response team, including four ambulances, two rapid response vehicles, a road manager, and an operations manager. This extensive mobilization underscores the severity of the situation and the urgent need for medical assistance.
