Vintage Car Club Celebrates Success at Taieri Tour Event

The Taieri Vintage Car Club hosted a successful tour on a beautiful day, commencing from the Grange Retirement Village in Mosgiel and journeying to Waihola for lunch. Participants showcased a variety of vehicles, with results highlighting the competitive spirit among vintage car enthusiasts.

The event featured multiple categories based on vehicle age, reflecting the rich history of automotive engineering. The competition was fierce, with several participants earning top positions across different classes.

Results from the Time Trials

In the Time Trial for Veteran Vehicles, which includes cars from before 1919, Travis Michelle took first place with a 1917 Moon. Following closely was Donald Campbell, who drove a 1911 Sunbeam to secure second place.

For Vintage Vehicles built between 1919 and 1931, Graeme Duthie drove a 1926 Ford Model T to a notable first place finish. He was joined on the podium by Simon Read, who placed second with a 1928 Ford Model A, and Nevin Gough, who secured third place with a 1922 Dodge.

Post-War and Modern Categories

The Post Vintage Vehicles class, covering models from 1932 to 1945, did not have results announced for this year. However, the Post War Vintage Vehicles category showcased impressive entries, with Neil Hodgkin claiming first place in his 1954 Humber. The second and third spots were taken by Brian Michelle with a 1952 Daimler and Alistair Day with a 1957 MG ZB, respectively.

In the Post 1960 Vehicles class, which includes models from 1961 to 1980, Bruce Brown emerged victorious with his 1978 Datsun 120Y SSS. Gil Edmunds followed in second place with a 1976 Mini Clubman, while Robert McAuliffe finished third with a 1971 Chrysler Valiant.

For cars manufactured between 1981 and 1994, Stuart Neil took the top spot with a 1989 Toyota. Phil Thomson and Malcolm Eunson rounded out the podium with their 1981 Ford Cortina and 1984 Volvo 240, respectively.

Motorcycle enthusiasts also participated, with Andrew Roxburgh earning first place on a Honda and Bruce Murray following closely aboard a BSA.

In the field tests, Bruce Brown again showcased his skills by claiming first place, while Graeme Duthie and Andrew Roxburgh shared the second position.

Overall, Stuart Neil emerged as the champion of the event, with Graeme Duthie and Travis Michelle securing second and third place, respectively.

The Taieri Vintage Car Club’s tour not only celebrated the heritage of these classic vehicles but also fostered camaraderie among participants and spectators alike, making it a memorable occasion for all involved.
