Auckland’s Hiwa Sports Centre Earns Top Property Council Award
The newly constructed Hiwa Sports Centre in Auckland has been awarded the prestigious top accolade by the Property Council of New Zealand. This recognition comes as a testament to the exceptional work of the team behind the centre, which represents an investment of approximately $320 million. The announcement was made during an awards ceremony held in Miami, where the centre also received accolades for its outstanding architectural design.
Located at 17 Symonds St, Hiwa was developed for Waipapa Taumata Rau, which is the Māori name for Auckland University. According to Leonie Freeman, Chief Executive of the Property Council of New Zealand, the achievements of the team were remarkable. Judges commended the project’s contributors for their collaborative spirit, transparent communication, and a strong focus on people-first principles.
Recognition Beyond New Zealand
In addition to the Property Council award, Hiwa was celebrated at the World Architecture Festival, where it received a World Architecture Festival award for sports architecture. This win highlights the centre’s innovative design and its significance in the global architectural landscape.
The accolades reflect a commitment to excellence in planning and execution. The team involved in Hiwa, from architects to builders, demonstrated a unified approach that impressed both local and international judges. Their dedication to creating a space that prioritizes user experience has set a benchmark for future projects.
The recognition of Hiwa not only elevates the profile of Auckland’s architectural achievements but also reinforces the importance of collaboration in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects. Such accolades serve as an inspiration for future developments within the region and beyond.
As the Hiwa Sports Centre continues to open its doors to the public, it is poised to become a central hub for sporting activities and community engagement, further enhancing Auckland’s reputation as a city committed to innovation and excellence in design.
